Academic units across West Virginia University are committed to collaborating productively to support and provide resources to students who have vision for new products or businesses. In this session, attendees will hear from students in a number of majors and colleges at WVU, including Business and Economics, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and Agri-business. These young people truly embody the entrepreneurial mindset and innovative spirit we want to foster in all our students, on campus and beyond. Working in teams, they’ve come up with some exciting things to share. You’ll also hear how the WVU LaunchLab, the College of B & E, the College of Creative Arts and the Reed College of Media work together to ensure the success of these teams. The panel will be facilitated by Steve Cutright of the Brickstreet Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the College of Business and Economics, and by Carrie White, the Director of the WVU LaunchLab.
Carrie White is the Director of the LaunchLab, a resource center for WVU students with nascent business initiatives. Prior to joining WVU, White spent 12 years as a professor of business law and entrepreneurship and the Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at West Liberty University. She has started, owned, operated and sold several small businesses in the Pittsburgh area, including Event Pros Inc., a sporting event promotion company focusing on mountain biking, snowboarding and adventure racing and Fitness Dynamics Training Studio, a personal training facility with a focus on women’s fitness and sport-specific training. She has also done academic research on entrepreneurship and intellectual property in higher education.
